We found Attenborough Nature Reserve by accident whilst looking for somewhere to go for a short walk when we were in the Nottingham area of the UK a couple of weekends ago. It is a beautiful set of lakes, wetlands, and grasslands that was created by flooding disused gravel pits, and since its opening in 1967 it … Continue reading Just Visiting: Attenborough Nature Reserve
I have very nostalgic feelings toward Glastonbury Tor and the town of Glastonbury. I lived there for nearly two years whilst I was growing up and frequently made the climb to the top of the Tor to enjoy the views on a nice day. Harriet is also very family with the Tor as she spent years of … Continue reading Just Visiting: Glastonbury Tor
Worcester is a city in the Midlands of England, roughly halfway between Gloucester and Birmingham. We have been here before when we walked the Worcester and Birmingham Canal to Droitwich Spa but this time decided just to spend the day in the city. It was a beautiful sunny day so we thought we would begin … Continue reading Just Visiting: Worcester
As part of our mission to walk the Grand Union Canal in it's entirety from Birmingham to London, Harriet and I recently ventured up to Warwick to do more canal walking. After coming off the towpath at the end of our delightful 2-day walk through Warwickshire, we spent the following day in Warwick having a look around the town and, of course, the castle.
We recently went away for a weekend in the Cotswolds for Harriet's birthday. We ended up staying in the beautiful village of Blockley which provided a very central location for the walking we wanted to do and the places we wanted to visit. Nestled on the side of a hill, Blockley is only a few … Continue reading Just Visiting: Blockley, Cotswolds
Harriet and I were in Herefordshire recently and decided to visit the Norman medieval castle at Goodrich. We had been through Goodrich before when walking our Symonds Yat Circular but unfortunately had not had time to visit the castle while we there. When got there is was obvious to us why this ruin is regarded as one … Continue reading Just Visiting: Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire
Minchinhampton is a small town in the Cotswolds near Stroud, Gloucestershire that is on the very top of a big hill. At points on the drive up, Harriet and I were directing words of encouragement at her car as it was clearly having to work very hard. The town itself is quaint and very pretty, but … Continue reading Just Visiting: Minchinhampton, Cotswolds
