We are having to go further afield now days in order to pursue our passion for canal walking as we have done all or are in the process of doing all of the ones most local to us. Finding ourselves having to go up to Nottingham this weekend, we decided to fit some canal walking in while we were in the area and start walking another of England’s majestic inland waterways.
The Trent and Mersey Canal is approximately 94 miles long and runs through the Midlands of England from the River Trent just southwest of Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire to Runcorn in Cheshire where it joins to the Bridgewater Canal and the River Weaver.
Starting in Long Eaton, we will walk out of the town to the River Trent at Trentlock via the Erewash Canal. We will then follow the river west for a short distance before reaching the T&M canal and following this approximately 13 miles to the town of Willington in Derbyshire which is roughly 5 miles from Burton Upon Trent.
It can’t be overstated how excited we are to have another canal walk lined up; it’s been a while.
We will have this posted at some point in future. Keep an eye on our Instagram for live pics from the way round.
Things to look out for soon; the next day of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, our return to the Worcester and Birmingham canal, another circular in the Cotswolds, more Wye Valley rambling and more wildlife.
Thanks for reading and keep exploring.
