On the Horizon: Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal

This weekend we finished the Kennet & Avon Canal.Yesterday at about 7pm, Harriet and I trudged wearily into the city of Bath and stood on the very spot we started our adventure on January 3rd this year (pictured above, taken yesterday). It was a fulfilling and exciting experience from start to finish and it has only made me want to pick another canal and conquer its towpath.

We have already chosen. Our explorations haven’t really taken us into Wales thus far which is strange as it hosts some of the UK’s best and most beautiful scenery. Feeling like we had been missing a trick and with childhood memories of visiting the Brecon Beacons National Park drawing me in, we have selected the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal as our next towpath adventure, starting in Brecon and finishing in Newport. We will be beginning this at the end of June once I get my birthday out of the way.

We are very much looking forward to what I am sure will be a stunning journey.

Credit to me also for refraining from using the word ‘valleys’ at anytime during this post.

Keep exploring!

Best Regards,

Adam & Harriet

  1. […] Welcome to part 1 of the final instalment of our Kennet & Avon canal saga… well, sort of. it depends on your definition of ‘Kennet & Avon Canal’. If we are referring solely to the man-made canal and not the entire navigation of water that includes the River Avon and the River Kennet, then this is the last instalment. Glad we cleared that up. Upon completion of this walk we were shocked to discover we might not have actually finished it properly (you may remember our disappointment). […]
